Interesting Facts
Presidents’ Day, observed on the third Monday in February in the United States, originally began as a celebration of George Washington’s birthday (February 22nd) but has since evolved to honor all U.S. presidents.
The holiday was shifted from Washington’s actual birthday to the third Monday in February as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act in 1971, aimed at providing workers with more three-day weekends.
Interestingly, this change means that Presidents’ Day never actually falls on the actual birthday of any American president, with the dates ranging from February 15th to the 21st.
It’s a day marked by patriotic displays, educational events focusing on the accomplishments of the country’s leaders, and, notably, significant retail sales, as businesses capitalize on the long weekend to attract shoppers.
