Interesting Facts
Veterans Day, observed annually on November 11th in the United States, was originally known as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I, which officially took place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
The holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor and acknowledge the service of all U.S. military veterans, not just those who served in World War I. Unlike Memorial Day, which pays tribute to those who died while in military service, Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, including those still living and serving.
The day is marked by parades, memorial ceremonies, and the Veterans Day National Ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery, which includes a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to honor those who served and sacrificed without recognition.
